More of the Babies

It is very important to me that Eli and Ellie get along well with the real babies of the house - Maybelle and Gus.  I am happy to say that their first meeting went great!  So far, everything is going remarkably well!  And being the proud mom that I am, I must report that they have already discovered the purpose of the liter box.  Amazing!  Bottle feeding is going well, but this new mom is ready to push the babes out of the nest.  They need to start eating on their own soon!!

If only we could read Gus and Maybelle's minds!  I am sure they are thinking what now??  Eli is fiesty.  He hissed and even clawed a little bit!

They are still taking a bottle and doing quite well.
I'm still waiting on a call from any takers!

The Little E's

That would be Eli and Ellie - our 2 new cats.  I went almost 50 years and had a total of two cats.  I have now had 4 in the last month.  I was not a cat person........I am slowly becoming one though.  Now, more on how Eli and Ellie came into our lives.....Reed and I were  having a peaceful, uneventful supper, and my phone rings.  My sister-in-law (Sandra) is calling to say she has two kittens, and their mother has disappeared, and they have to be bottle fed.  She sweetly asks if I'll take ONE.....She also mentions how cute, cuddly and sweet the little black one is.  We agree to meet her and give it a try.  However, Kris shows up with BOTH kittens.  Reed, in a moment of obvious weakness, thinks we should take both.  In all honesty he was right.  I think they would be lost without each other.  Long story short, they have been going to school with me and staying in our lab's large crate.  They are doing great, too!  They mostly eat and sleep.  The teachers at school have been wonderful.  One teacher friend, who is a BIG cat fan, actually brought me a real diaper bag packed with all kinds of things that I would have never thought of.  It has proved to be quite a valuable resource.

So, now the adventure begins.  I am not sure if one or both of these babies will remain with us for the long haul, but right now we are bonding quite nicely.  If you're close by and want to help with feeding, we are pretty much on an every two hour schedule.  Please feel free to stop by!

For the record, the pictures make them look bigger than they really are.

At first they just couldn't nurse from their bottles very well.  The syringe worked great though.  I am happy to say that both are now taking a bottle!

I love this-I refer to it as "in the zone."

Eli's turn.....

A little snuggle time after eating.....

I thought they would enjoy a little time outside, since it was such a beautiful day.   Right now, they are mostly content with eating, sleeping, snuggling just a little and staying in their crate.  I don't think that's going to last much longer though!

It's VERY hard to get a cute picture of both of them together.

Any takers?

Uh-Oh

Well, it's finally happened.  After over a year of fairly consistent blog posts, I have absolutely nothing to blog about!  No visits from Maddie, no trips, no birthdays, no anything!  So, here are just a few random thoughts until things pick up around here-

  • I really love this time of year.  The cool crisp mornings and afternoons are wonderful.  I forget every year how wonderful fall is!
  • Things are starting to fall into place at school.  Routines are established, schedules are set, and things are starting to run smoothly.  I am still asked almost everyday how much longer I am going to teach.  Who knows?  I am still taking it one day at a time.
  • I am so glad College Football has started back, although this means I am not seeing my son very much these days!
  • I miss, miss, miss my sweet Maddie and her parents!

Did I mention that I miss this angel?
Kitty and Maddie have had a few growing pains, but they really love each other!

Caleb and his kitty are doing great!

That's all for now! Hopefully things will pick up soon!
(I do have one little update to our lives since I wrote
this post.  More on that Tuesday!)

The Big Girls

Another oldie but goodie..........

On the same day that Tropical Storm Lee blew into town, Allison, Jessi, and Anna journeyed on over to entertain Maddie before she had to head home.  She simply loves being with the "big" girls!  Once again, they took turns taking pictures, so this is really their blog.  Thanks girls!

Of course, there was lots of dancing!

And Maddie introduced everyone to Kitty and Miss Kittie....
They are as sweet as they are cute!
A little dance time with Uncle C.....
I can't wait until you visit again.  Maddie had a ball!

A Little More Birthday Fun

When you turn 50, you deserve 2 birthday posts! We got to meet Josh, Lindsey, Maddie, Caleb, and Sandra at Dreamland for an early midweek celebration.......Then we celebrated his actual birthday by eating out and a football game.  I think overall he enjoyed his birthday!

Fun at Dreamland

Caleb furnished the Singing Birthday hat, an inflatable walker, and a lighted over the hill banner.  Cute!  Cute! Cute!  Act like you don't see a picture of Reed in his hat.  I think he said, "I better not see a picture of me in that hat on your blog."

Josh and Lindsey-Thanks for driving all the way from Alex City!

Yum!

Maddie is giving Pop a hand with his present.

"It's ok to be 50 Pop."

Birthday Cookie - made by Caleb (He is multi-talented!)

Aunt Sandra

Is she precious or what?

He was a good sport (for about 15 seconds)!

Now I couldn't let his actual birthday go by without doing anything (even though he wanted me to).  So I enlisted Tim to help me with a couple of signs around town.  I was pretty proud of myself!  Tim did a great job securing them.  I don't think a hurricane could have blown these down!  Thanks!!

He actually rode by this one and DID NOT SEE IT!  I kept waiting for a call from him.  When that didn't happen, I called to see what he thought about it.  He had driven right by it without seeing it.  I insisted that he turn around and come back!

On the main corner at Napa!!

He received lots of texts, calls and well wishes from everyone.  Thanks for helping make his big day special!

Say It's Not So

Reed is the BIG 5-0!

He has been adamant that we don't do anything big for his birthday, so believe it or not I didn't.  I decided that the least I could do was listen to his wishes on this monumental occasion!  We met the kids  in Tuscaloosa for a birthday supper at his request.  He, of course, got to choose the restaurant.  What did he choose?  The Original Dream Land!

Even though we really aren't doing anything special, I don't want to let the day go by without sharing how SPECIAL he really is to all of us!  He is simply the best husband, father, grandfather and person in general.  From coaching countless baseball and softball games, serving on endless school committees, teaching Sunday School and Youth at church for years to so many other things, he has always put our children and family first.

We love you bunches!  I am so glad that I married such an older man!  You can help prepare me for a smooth road to my glory years!  Love you!

I thought the best way to hightlight your special day was to let you take a look at the wonderful family you have created!  We think you are the best!
Have a Very Happy Birthday!

Simply the Best Father in the World!
